Why These Natural Ingredients?

N-Acetyl Cysteine N-Acetyl Cysteine is a powerful amino acid that acts as a mucolytic by breaking up disulfide bonds. This decreases the viscosity of mucus and allows the sinuses to drain.

Turmeric and Bromelain Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and has been found to limit the action of lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase enzymes involved in inflammation. Sinatrol includes turmeric which is standardized to contain 95% curcumin. Bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple, provides an added synergistic effect when combined with turmeric as bromelain has been shown to modulate the arachidonic cascade.

Berberine Sulfate Berberine sulfate is a botanical extract from the roots and bark of various plants including Oregon grape root, barberry and goldenseal. Berberine sulfate has been shown to have natural anti-bacterial properties.

Licorice Root The active constituent of Licorice root, Glycyrrhizin, has been shown to have antimicrobial activity and to boost the immune system by improving T-cell count. Sinatrol is standardized to contain 12% Glycyrrhizin Complex for enhanced potency.

Andrographis and Eleuthero (Siberian Ginseng) Andrographis is an herb native to India and Sri Lanka. In a double-blind placebo-controlled study of 208 adults with upper respiratory tract infections Andrographolide, the active constituent in Andrographis, was found to improve nasal secretion and soreness of throat compared to placebo. In a recent study, the combination of Siberian Ginseng and Andrographis was found to be helpful for patients with upper respiratory challenges. In this study, the combination of Siberian Ginseng and Andrographis improved throat symptoms, headache, nasal symptoms and general malaise.

Thyme The active ingredient in thyme, thymol, has been used to soothe irritated sinuses and helps loosen phlegm. Thyme has also been shown to have anti-bacterial properties.
